SwissSol-Viessmann Year Round Solar Hot Water Heating

The SwissSol-Viessmann system is an active solar water heating system that can be used in residential and commercial settings to provide hot water for sinks, showers, laundry, dishes etc. This system can also be customized to heat water for swimming pools and radiant space heating.

SwissSol-Viessmann System Includes:

  • complete system installation
  • glazed solar collector(s), (Viessmann F-100)
  • solar water storage tank 50 USG
  • automatic control system (Canada/USA Patent)
  • 3 Way Mixing Valve
  • double Check-Valve
  • circulation pump
  • solar piping (up to 50ft)
  • expansion vessel tank
  • heat-transfer fluid (food-save polyethylene glycol)
  • engineer drawings & permit

Advantages Of Solar Energy

Of all energy sources - solar is the one source that can bring energy directly to the user with no "middleman" - you can't tax the sun.

Solar is a clean, powerful, proven and practical source of energy. Its benefits intersect all the major issues that we face daily as individuals, as part of a local community, and as a nation.

By reducing pollution it can reduce health costs, it can save money on our energy bills, and supply a reliable source of power not affected by international events or natural catastrophes. All while creating jobs and wealth locally and improving our environment.

Unlike other forms of energy, solar has zero emission, operates silently, requires little maintenance and is generated where it is needed - at a factory, an office building, in a hotel or at home.

Solar energy's benefits are real and immediate - creating savings for years to come while reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions and helping the environment.

Statistics for Canada state: that solar thermal can generate as many as 28 jobs per $1 million invested compared to only 7 jobs for conventional energy sources.

Advantages Of Solar Energy For The Average Home Owner in BC

The average home owner in BC can reduce the increase of electricity consumption in their household and save on energy costs.

A standard two panel solar water heating system (solar thermal system) will cover 70 to 80% of their hot water heating requirements and should always be the first step when implementing solar. In addition, a solar water heating system can be expanded at anytime to support space heating and pool heating. This will allow even more use of free energy generated from the sun.

Solar photovoltaic (solar PV) systems produce electricity, which can be stored in batteries or be fed back into the grid. With the relatively low electricity prices of 8.14 cents per kWh in BC this would not be economical; since the electricity produced with a solar PV system(3000 watt inverter with 1400 watt solar array, eight 175 watt solar panels, costs $14,000) for a grid tied system would cost twice as much per kWh. The pay back time is calculated to be around 40 years and more. Just as a comparison: we would need 18 solar PV panels to heat one homes domestic hot water, for which we only require two solar thermal panels for the same output and the solar PV water heating system would cost five times as much as a solar thermal system.

So, it should be clear that if your home has access to the electrical grid, you need to look at solar thermal systems to heat water first. Only when the BC utility companies will pay 25 cents for photovoltaic energy that is fed back into their grid, solar generated electricity will start to make sense.

Solar Water Heating Can Be Used In Different Applications Like:

For residential use: referring to solar thermals systems that heat water, not solar PV Homes can be operated by solar domestic hot water heating, space heating support and pool or hot tub heating. DHW heating can account for over 20% of an average homeowner's energy needs. So, please consider this when you like to lower your energy costs and take action. An average pool in Canada, if heated, uses the same amount of energy to heat in the summer months, as most homes require year round - and there are app. 600,000 pools in Canada. Solar pool heating systems pay for themselves very quickly. The potential greenhouse emissions in this market are high - and yet there are no regulations of the use of fossil fuels to heat those pools. In California and in Europe, the energy sources used for pools are regulated and their governments actively encourage solar. In Switzerland you are only allowed to heat your pool with solar, nothing else.
